TITLENGC 2359 Nebula
KEYWORDSStars, stellar systems and interstellar medium
DATE2012-05-08
ABSTRACTThis is an image of NGC 2359, better known as the Thors Helmet nebula, obtained using the Wide-Field Camera on the Isaac Newton Telescope. NGC 2359 is actually more like an interstellar bubble, blown as a fast wind from the bright, massive star near the bubbles center sweeps through a surrounding molecular cloud. The central star is an extremely hot giant Wolf-Rayet star thought to be in a brief, pre-supernova stage of evolution.
